SELF PAY:
My standard self-pay rate is $180 per 50-minute session. Choosing to pay out-of-pocket means your care remains completely private — no diagnosis is required for insurance purposes, no records are subject to insurer review, and your treatment is not tied to any external authorization process.
Payment is due at the time of service. Forms of payment accepted include:
Credit/Debit Cards
Health Savings Account cards (HSA)
Flex Savings Account cards (FSA)
Exact cash
At Young Counseling & Consulting, we recognize that financial circumstances can sometimes create barriers to accessing mental health care. In alignment with our commitment to equitable and compassionate care, we offer a sliding scale fee arrangement to all self-pay clients.
No proof of financial need is required — however please note that this agreement may be periodically reviewed to ensure sustainability for all parties.
If you would like to be considered for a sliding scale fee, please let us know during your initial inquiry or consultation. We’re happy to discuss options and determine what’s appropriate and available.
INSURANCE & PAYMENT OPTIONS:
I am now credentialed through Alma and currently accept Cigna and Aetna insurance plans, with the possibility of additional plans being added in the future. If you have one of these plans, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to verify your mental health benefits before our first session.
How It Works Through Alma: Alma handles the administrative side of insurance billing, making the process straightforward. Once we confirm your coverage, Alma will manage claim submissions on your behalf. You will be responsible for any applicable copays, deductibles, or coinsurance as determined by your plan.
An Important Note About Using Insurance: While I'm pleased to offer this option, the decision to use your insurance benefits is entirely yours — and it's worth understanding what that choice involves. Using insurance for mental health services comes with a few considerations:
Diagnosis required: Insurance companies require a formal mental health diagnosis to authorize and reimburse services. This diagnosis becomes part of your permanent medical record.
Reduced confidentiality: Your insurer may have the right to request records or information about your treatment as part of the claims process.
Audit risk: Insurance companies may conduct audits of claims, which could involve a review of session notes and treatment documentation.
If privacy and confidentiality are priorities for you, self-pay remains an available option and preserves the highest level of discretion in your care.
OUT-OF-NETWORK BENEFITS & SUPERBILLS:
If you have an insurance plan that I am not currently in-network with, you may still be able to receive partial reimbursement through your plan's out-of-network benefits. Upon request, I can provide you with a superbill — an itemized receipt that includes the necessary diagnostic and billing codes for you to submit directly to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.
To find out if this applies to you, contact your insurance provider and ask:
"Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?"
"What is my out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?"
"What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed after my deductible?"
Please note that reimbursement is never guaranteed, and the same considerations around diagnosis and confidentiality apply when submitting a superbill to your insurer.
Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged for the session.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee.
Missed appointments ("no-shows") will also be charged the full session fee.
Out-of-network reimbursement through insurance does not cover missed or late-cancelled sessions.
I understand that emergencies happen. In rare or extenuating circumstances, exceptions may be made at my discretion.
Thank you for your understanding and respect for this policy, which helps maintain consistency and fairness for all clients.
CANCELLATION & NO-SHOW POLICY:
NO SURPRISES / GOOD FAITH ESTIMATES:
The No Surprises Act was passed in December 2020, under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, with the aim of protecting consumers from receiving unexpected medical bills.
The Good Faith Estimate provision of the No Surprises Act federally mandates that healthcare providers must give clients an estimate of anticipated healthcare items and services, using what is called a “Good Faith Estimate.” This took effect on January 1, 2022.
What is a Good Faith Estimate? It is an estimate of the total expected costs of non-emergency healthcare items or services. It:
Intends to offer predictability & transparency in how much clients will be charged for healthcare services prior to their appointment.
Includes all regularly scheduled appointments (i.e. therapy sessions).
Does NOT include no-shows, late cancellations, or other services related to crisis care, which by definition are unexpected and cannot be predicted for the purpose of compiling a Good Faith Estimate in advance.
May also include consultations with client collateral contacts, fees related to paperwork requests, and other legal and administrative fees related to client care, when such items are scheduled in advance.
I offer Good Faith Estimates that project out 12 months in advance. Together, we will collaborate and mutually determine the frequency of appointments and your estimate will give you a reasonable idea of what to expect in terms of therapy costs for one whole year, based on my current rates.
As a private pay client, if you wish to receive a Good Faith Estimate, please let me know and I will work with you to obtain the best estimate based on your individual needs and update it as required by law.
I support my client's knowing their rights as they pertain to the No Surprises Act. If requested, make sure to save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate. You can find more information regarding Good Faith Estimates, your rights, or the dispute process here.
